The purpose of this course is to make students to understand the basic concept of groundwater seepage in porous media, especially in aquifer system and to know the basic procedure and recently development of groundwater seepage especially in urban construction such as excavation, tunneling, and other underground constructions.
The content of the course includes the basic concept and basic property of groundwater, law of groundwater moving, seepage equations, Darcy’s law, Dupuit equation, equipotentials, flowlines, and flownet of groundwater. The course will also present the analytical method of steady-flow and unsteady-flow in 1D, 2D and 3D condition and includes mechanics of water seepage and well pumping, the interaction between brackish and freshwater near the coastal region, transferring of groundwater pollution, numerical analysis of groundwater seepage. The load and inner force on underground structure change due to the unsteady seepage. Land subsidence with the prediction method caused by unsteady-flow such as pumping of groundwater. And seepage in unsaturated soil. This course will arrange once field visit for groundwater pumping and twice homework, which is aimed to deepen the teaching effect in classroom, and write scientific reports. This course will be lectured by using both English and Chinese at the same time.
