As a course for master degree of the major of Marxist philosophy, Studies of Modern Western Philosophy mainly teaches the philosophies emerging in western countries and having great influences in the world since the birth of Marxist philosophy, its contents involve so many schools as Voluntarism, Positivism, Existentialism, The Philosophy of Life, Freudianism, Pragmatism,Analytic Philosophy, Frankfort School and Structuralism, etc. the course aims at making a deep and systematic analysis and explanation to the theories of the main schools and its representative figures, and giving them a objective evaluation so that the reasonable factors are affirmed while displaying the theoretical essence and limitations of them.. The goal of this course is to make the students to grasp the basic contents of modern western philosophy and its main characteristics, and to understand the historical orbit and internal logic of the development of modern western philosophy, so as to strengthen their theoretical accomplishment about western philosophy, to broaden their theoretical field of vision, and to improve their ability of analyzing modern western philosophy with the basic principles and methods of Marxist philosophy.
