Fracture Mechanics is a discipline concerned with the strength and law of crack growth of cracked bodies. Its objective is to provide theory and criteria for design principle, safety evaluation and failure analysis of defected structures and materials, so as to answer the question when, where and under how much external load fracture could happen in structures.
Through studying elements of linear fracture mechanics, elastic-plastic fracture mechanics, fracture criteria and experimental determination of fracture parameters, students are supposed to have a good command of basic concepts and principles of Fracture Mechanics. Therefore, students are fully prepared for doing research in Fracture Mechanics and other areas of Solid Mechanics.
