Veterinary Virology is a course to study the molecular structure and function of viruses, the interactions between viruses and their hosts(or cells)by use of the modern theories and techniques of molecular biology. This course contains viral taxonomy and nomenclature, viral replication, viral genetics and evolution, determinants of viral virulence and host resistance/susceptibility, mechanisms of viral oncogenesis, laboratory diagnosis of viral disease, pathogenic mechanisms and development of the genetic engineering vaccine of the viruses, bioinformatics used in animal virus research, surveillance, prevention, control, and eradication of viral disease. The key point of this course is the virus-cell interaction and molecular characterization of animal viruses. The objective of this course is to make the strong foundation and provide further advanced laboratory technique skills in virus associated works for the graduated students with the major of preventative veterinary medicine.
